One of the best ways to enjoy the crystal clear waters while traveling in the Caribbean is to take part in snorkeling. The sport is incredibly popular and what’s great is that there is very little, or no experience needed in order to get out there and give it a try. Cost Effective

There are all kinds of wonderful activities and hobbies you can take up in the Caribbean, but some can be a bit pricey. When it comes to snorkeling, the gear is very inexpensive, easy to find, and doesn’t need to be replaced as often as some other sports. You need just a couple of items, which are a mask, fins, and a snorkel. It’s that easy, from there you’re ready to begin and enjoy your vacation.

A little tip when you’re shopping for gear is to be sure to purchase it from a place you can be properly fitted by a trained salesperson. The items need to fit perfectly in order for them to be effective; otherwise you’ll end up with issues such as a leaky mask, or fins that slip off.

Start out Small

Instead of heading into the wide open sea, or even jumping off a boat to enjoy a little snorkeling, it’s best to start out small for your first adventure. If you can, try to practice a couple of times in a pool. This gives you a chance to get a feel for the equipment and how to breathe in an environment you feel relaxed and safe. You will then be able to establish the basics before heading into open waters.

Go with Friends

When you are ready to head to the open waters it’s best to go with a couple of friends to an area you are all familiar with. Again it will help you stay relaxed and provide a positive experience that gives you confidence. As you become more skilled you can head to deeper waters and eventually areas you aren’t quite as familiar with. You can even join a snorkeling tour that takes you out in a boat that you can jump off.

No Longer a Newbie

The great thing about snorkeling is that it’s relatively easy to learn. Snorkeling is also a sport that is easy to pick up on, which means you won’t be a newbie for long!
