The perfect Smoked Salmon Bagel with Cream Cheese

A smoked Salmon Bagel with Cream Cheese is one of my favorite breakfast food to start my morning. It’s easy to prepare and can be enjoyed by everyone. Let’s not forget to add a tall glass of lemonade or a warm cup of lemongrass and ginger tea.

Smoked salmon is one of my favorite foods. It’s rich and salty but not too fatty. This smoked salmon bagel recipe combines the fish nutrients with seasoned cream cheese, capers, and pickled onion for a delicious breakfast or brunch dish that’s easy to make at home.

When we get older, we start by looking for foods to help us with arthritis and osteoporosis. Salmon is a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which can help your body fight inflammation and heart disease. Smoked salmon is an excellent way to add a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and other nutrients to your diet. But be aware of the sodium level.

Ingredients for Smoked Salmon Bagel with Cream Cheese

Before we start, this is not your typical smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese recipe. This particular recipe has some zing to it. From the bagel selection to the topping, it is just my way to indulge in foods I like.

Here’s what you’ll need for this smoked salmon bagel recipe:

  • Fresh Bagels: I usually buy my bagels from Panera Bread because I love their baked goods. I chose the Asiago Bagel for this recipe because it is airy, chewy, fluffy, and cheesy.
  • Smoked Salmon: flavor is important for smoked salmon. I usually buy mine at Costo (very cost-effective) or Wegman’s. When buying smoked salmon, look for cold-smoked salmon or lox. The texture should be soft, and the color should be bright. There should not be any brown edges, and the salmon should not be too oily.
  • Cream Cheese: You can get store-bought flavored cream cheese or make your own. My homemade cream cheese consists of regular cream cheese mixed with NouBess Hot and Spicy Sauce. The seasoned cream cheese mixture brings the best out of the Asiago Bagel and Smoke Salmon.
  • Avocado: this is an optional ingredient, but the combination is absolutely delicious! Avocado has a smooth, creamy texture and provides a good contrast to the spicy cream cheese.
  • Pickled Red Onion or Regular Red Onion. I like both. But I used pickled red onion instead of regular red onion for this recipe.
  • Capers: Not too many people like capers. This zesty and salty ingredient adds tons of flavor. Use store-bought.
  • Optional toppings: Dill if you like. I did not add dill to this recipe because the smoked salmon from Costo is already seasoned with dill.
  • Other Optional ingredients: You can add cucumber and slices of tomatoes instead of the avocado.

How to make Smoked Salmon Bagel

  1. Prepare the cream cheese mixture: add the cream cheese and Noubess Seasoning to a bowl.
  2. Mix well to combine.
  3. Spread the cheese mixture onto half of the bagel.
  4. Top with the avocado slices, smoked salmon, capers, and pickled red onions, and close the bagel. You are ready for a delicious sandwich.

Notes and Tips for making the Smoked Salmon Bagel

  1. Fresh bagels or no fresh bagels: fresh is always better. Always use the best quality for your sandwiches.
  2. Toast or not to toast your bagels. I prefer mine not toasted. But you may want to toast your bagel if you like more texture and crunchiness.
  3. Soften the cream cheese before combining. You cannot do anything with hard cream cheese. Leave it at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes before mixing it with the NouBess sauce. The texture will be creamy and appetizing.
  4. Use the freshest ingredients. This simple bagel sandwich is all about the freshest ingredients. Use the best quality ingredients you can for the best sandwich.
  5. What’s the best-smoked salmon to use? It is all about preference and your budget. Whenever you can, buy natural smoked salmon. Do not buy smoked salmon with preservatives and added flavoring.
  6. What other toppings can you add? Add whatever topping you want! Always go for healthy toppings such as cucumber, avocado, lettuce, or watercress.
  7. Can you make it ahead of time? Not really! If you are preparing brunch for family members or friends, it is best to prepare all the ingredients ahead of time. Leave the seasoned cream cheese and the smoked salmon in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve brunch. Also, don’t leave the smoked salmon out too long; otherwise, the edge will turn brown. You can mix the cream cheese a day or two ahead of time and keep it covered in the fridge.

If you’re looking for a delicious, easy, healthy breakfast or even light lunch or dinner, this smoked salmon bagel recipe is for you! Make it for your family and friends next time they are over for brunch – everyone will love these!
