The Ultimate Guide to Pineapple Water: Benefits, Recipes, and How to Make It

Pineapple water is a refreshing and healthy drink that is made by infusing pineapple chunks or slices in water. It is a great way to stay hydrated and get your daily dose of vitamins and minerals.

Pineapple water is a refreshing and healthy drink that is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is a great alternative to sugary drinks like soda and juice, and it can help you stay hydrated and boost your immune system.

Pineapple is a good source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that helps to protect cells from damage. Vitamin C is also important for the immune system and can help fight off infection and illness. Additionally, pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is a major risk factor for chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s, so bromelain can help to reduce your risk of developing these diseases.

Pineapple Water vs Pineapple Juice

Pineapple juice and pineapple water are both refreshing drinks made with pineapple, but they have some key differences.

  • Nutrition: Pineapple juice is a good source of vitamins C and A, potassium, and manganese. However, it is also high in sugar. Pineapple water, on the other hand, is lower in sugar and calories than pineapple juice. It is also a good source of antioxidants.
  • Taste: Pineapple juice has a strong, sweet flavor. Pineapple water has a milder flavor with hints of pineapple.
  • Texture: Pineapple juice is smooth and watery. Pineapple water has a slightly chewy texture from the pineapple chunks.
  • Preparation: Pineapple juice is made by blending or juicing pineapple. Pineapple water is made by infusing pineapple chunks in water.

Ultimately, your best choice will depend on your preferences and needs. If you are looking for a refreshing drink with a strong pineapple flavor, pineapple juice is a good option. If you are looking for a healthier drink with a milder flavor, pineapple water is a better choice.

Pineapple water is also said to have a number of health benefits, including:

  • Weight loss: Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that has been shown to help with weight loss. Bromelain helps break down proteins and fats and reduces inflammation, which can contribute to weight gain.
  • Digestion: Pineapple is a good source of fiber, which is essential for good digestion. Fiber helps to keep the digestive system healthy and regular.
  • Immunity: Pineapple is a good source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps boost the immune system. Vitamin C is important for fighting off infection and illness.
  • Skin health: Pineapple contains antioxidants that help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals can contribute to the development of wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of aging.
  • Reduces inflammation: Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that has anti-inflammatory properties. Bromelain can help reduce inflammation in the body, which can lead to several health benefits, including improved joint pain, reduced risk of heart disease, and better skin health.
  • Energy: Pineapple is a good potassium source, an important mineral for energy production. Potassium helps to regulate blood sugar levels and nerve function, which can help to improve energy levels.
  • Hydration: Pineapple water is a great way to stay hydrated. Water is essential for good health and helps flush toxins out of the body.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 pineapple peel, seeds removed, and reserve the core
  • 1 knob ginger peeled
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1-2 Cassia Bark or 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tbsp Honey/maple syrup/agave
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • Wash the pineapple with vinegar and water. (I use a bottle of vinegar spray to spray the outside of the pineapple and rinse it under running water).
  • Lay the pineapple on the cutting board and cut off both ends. Remove excess skin and fruit and place them in the saucepan or pot.
  • Place the pineapple on a cutting board and carefully slice off the peel. Lay the pineapple on the cutting board, slice it in half and again in halves, and slice off the core.
  • Cut the peel slices and core into smaller pieces or chunks and place in the saucepan with the remaining ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil under high heat; let boil for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Let the mixture cool thoroughly and drain. Store in a glass bottle or pitcher for later use. Drink as a cold or hot liquid.

Notes

  • The recipe will make about 20-24 ounces of pineapple water.
  • Use cinnamon sticks or cassia bark (another type of cinnamon with a bolder and more subtle flavor.
  • Practice zero waste; use most of the pineapple peel to make the mixture. Use the leftover pineapple for compost.
