The beauty of this salad lies in its simplicity. The chayote is gently cooked, creating a slightly tender texture. It’s then tossed in a vibrant vinaigrette made with Champagne vinegar, fresh herbs, and spices. The result is a burst of flavor with every bite!
The ingredients you’ll need for this Quick and Easy Chayote Salad:
Main Ingredients:
- 2 chayotes: The star of the show! These versatile vegetables will be slightly cooked to create a delightful texture.
Vinaigrette:
- 1 tablespoon Champagne vinegar (or white vinegar, or rice vinegar): This adds a bright, acidic zip to the salad. You can choose your favorite type of vinegar based on what you have on hand.
- 3 tablespoons olive oil: Provides a rich, smooth base for the vinaigrette.
- 1 shallot, chopped finely: Adds a subtle oniony flavor.
- 1 whole garlic, crushed/chopped finely: For a touch of garlicky goodness.
- 2 scallions, sliced thin: Offers a mild onion flavor and a nice pop of green color.
Optional Kick:
- 1/8 teaspoon NouBess Hot and Spicy Sauce: This is entirely optional, but for those who love a bit of heat, this hot sauce adds a delicious spicy and fruity layer to the vinaigrette.
Seasoning:
- Salt and pepper: To taste, for that perfect final touch!

Take it Up a Notch with Noubess
For those who like a little kick, consider adding a splash of Noubess Hot and Spicy Sauce to your vinaigrette. This hot sauce not only adds a layer of heat, but its fruity and spicy aroma takes the salad to a whole new level.
Here are some tips to ensure your Quick and Easy Chayote Salad turns out perfectly every time:
- Choosing Your Chayote: Pick a chayote that feels firm and heavy for its size. The skin should be smooth and blemish-free.
- Cooking the Chayote: Don’t overcook the chayote! You want it to be slightly tender but still have a bit of a crisp bite. Boiling or steaming for 5-7 minutes is usually sufficient.
- Vinaigrette Magic: Let the vinaigrette flavors meld for at least 15 minutes before tossing it with the chayote. This allows the garlic and shallot to infuse the oil and vinegar.
- Customize Your Crunch: For an extra textural element, add chopped nuts like toasted almonds or pecans to the salad.
- Leftover Love: This salad can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. However, the chayote may lose some of its crispness.
Bonus Tip: Feeling adventurous? Try grilling the chayote slices for a smoky twist on the recipe!
